POULSBO — With one day to go in the Olympic League Track and Field championships, the Port Angeles boys sit in second place as several more events are scheduled for Saturday.
Port Angeles got a first place finish in the opening two days from Jack Gladfelter in the 1,600-meter run. Gladfelter set a time of 4 minutes, 25.96 seconds.
Port Angeles’ Parker Nickerson also won the long jump with a personal-record leap of 20 feet, 8 inches.
Port Angeles also got a second-place finish from their 4×100 relay team of Bryson Graham, Dai Quan Tapia, Trevor Martin and Jason Hawes. They finished with a time of 45.52 seconds.
Martin also picked up a second place in the discus with a throw of 119-5.
Sequim’s Andrew Brown is having a monster meet, with two first-place finishes. Brown won the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 15.97 seconds. He followed that up with a personal record in the high jump at 6-0¾.
Sequim’s Sean Southard finished second in the 400 meters with a personal-record time of 52.53. His teammate Mirek Skov, a favorite in Saturday’s pole vault, took third in the discus at 118-6.
The Sequim boys sit at fourth with 38 points.
Girls
Sequim’s Ivy Barrett won the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.15. Her teammate Kaitlyn Bloomenrader was third with a personal-record 1:03.49.
Sequim’s 4×200 relay team (Hi’ilei Robinson, Bloomenrader, Jolene Vaara and Barrett) took first with a time of 1:49.65. Sequim’s 4×400 girls relay team is considered a favorite to win that event Saturday.
Sequim sits at fifth with 45 points while the Port Angeles girls are sixth at 31.
East Jefferson at Liberty and Stanwood Twilight
RENTON — East Jefferson’s Aliyah Yearian set a new No. 1 time statewide in the 1,600 meter run at the Liberty Twilight distance invitational Friday.
Going up against runners from bigger schools, Yearian finished third with a personal-record time of 5:02.75. That is the top 1A time in the state. Yearian already hold the No. 2 time statewide in the 3,200.
Her teammate Fiona Fraser came in 19th in the 1,600 with a personal-record time of 5:25.24, which is the 10th-best 1A time in the state. Fraser also has the fourth-best 3,200 time in the state. Camryn Hines came in 24th with a time of 5:30.98.
For the boys, Sebastian Manza was 30th with a time of 4:37.23 and Soare Johnston was 41st with a time of 4:42.20, a personal record.
While the distance runners were at Liberty High School, East Jefferson’s other track athletes competed at the Stanwood Twilight meet.
Addy Asbell finished second in the shot put with a distance of 31-8¼. Kaylen Pray was second in the 100-meter run with a time of 13.40 seconds and Stephanie Sanchez was third in the 100 hurdles with a personal-record time of 17.57.
