FRIDAY NIGHT PREP FOOTBALL UPDATE: The guys in Cowboy costumes outscored those dressed like Pirates, and the Redhawks exorcised the demons of last season

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated to include more state scores from Friday night.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Chimacum Cowboys won their second game of the season, taking a 45-38 thriller over Vashon on Friday night at Memorial Field.

The Cowboys go into Tuesday’s half-game Olympic League 1A tiebreaker against Coupeville with two wins in three games, while the Wolves, who fell to Concrete 65-17 on Friday, have lost six straight games.

Port Townsend 36, Charles Wright 0

TACOMA — The Redhawks avenged their 2014 season-ending loss with their sixth shutout of 2015.

Port Townsend, undefeated and ranked eighth in Class 1A, will likely face Bellevue Christian next week in the West Central District playoffs.

Neah Bay 48, Clallam Bay 14

NEAH BAY — The second-ranked Red Devils ended their regular season with a routing of their nearest rival on Friday.

Sophomore quarterback Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. tossed three touchdowns — including two to Cameron Buzzell — and ran for another to lead Neah Bay to a 40-0 lead at halftime.

The Red Devils will have a bye next week during the Quad-District playoffs.

The Bruins, meanwhile, will play at Taholah next week. The Chitwins defeated Oakville 52-12 on Friday to secure District 4’s third seed at Quad-Districts.

Thursday’s area scores

Three area teams saw their seasons end with losses Thursday.

Sequim lost a heartbreaker to Bremerton 27-20, which eliminated the Wolves from postseason consideration.

Port Angeles fell to Kingston 45-21, and Forks lost to Eatonville 57-0.

The Roughriders and Spartans had long been eliminated from postseason contention and neither will play a crossover game this week.

Saturday’s area game

Crescent plays at Quilcene in a nonleague game at 1 p.m.
