FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Sequim smokes Olympic; Port Angeles offers a tough test; Port Townsend falters late and Neah Bay rolls

*A full Sequim game story and photos plus photos and recaps from Friday Night’s other prep football action will appear in the Sunday edition of the Peninsula Daily News and online Saturday afternoon.

SEQUIM — The Sequim defense forced four turnovers, quarterback Taig Wiker returned from a knee injury throw three touchdown passes and run for another score and the Wolves turned an Olympic League showdown with Olympic into a 37-14 win over the Trojans.

The victory knocked the Trojans (3-1, 4-2) from the top spot in the league standings and gave Sequim (3-1, 5-1) an inside lane to one of three district playoff berths.

The Wolves led 16-0 at halftime after a 35-yard catch-and-run TD pass from Wiker to Michael Young and a 1-yard Wiker rush.

Olympic scored on it’s opening drive of the second half, but the Sequim defense stuffed a two-point conversion run to keep it a two-possession game.

The Wolves removed all doubt on a Wiker pass that was tipped at midfield by Olympic’s Adam Johnson and straight into the waiting arms of Hayden Eaton for a 69-yard catch-and-run score.

Michael Young intercepted a pass and then scored on a 16-yard pass from Wiker and Garrett Hoesel capped Sequim’s scoring with a 59-yard interception return from the right sideline to the middle of the field in the fourth quarter.

The Wolves visit Port Angeles in the Rainshadow Rumble at Civic Field at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
