Former Mariners star Boone abruptly quits as manager in Victoria

Bret Boone, the former all-star second baseman for the Seattle Mariners who became manager of the Victoria Seals minor league team this year, abruptly quit the team today, the Victoria Times Colonist reported.

The San Diego resident is returning home to be with his family and deal with a personal situation.

“This was a very difficult decision for me,” said Boone in a prepared statement. “I am disappointed that I won’t be able to be with the team throughout the rest of the season, but after a lot of consideration, I have decided that this is the best move for both me and my family.”
