LUMMI —

Freshman Austin Brockie’s two laterals for touchdowns to Deion Hoskins – one improvised and one very much planned – spiced top-ranked Lummi’s 40-12 victory over fifth-rated Neah Bay on Friday as the Blackhawks clinched the Northwest 1B League title with their school-record 20th consecutive victory.

Lummi (9-0 overall), which also clinched the league’s top state playoff seed, played a physical game behind the pounding running of Hoskins, Robert Scott and quarterback Jared Tom, who combined for 238 yards rushing on 33 carries.

Lummi limited Neah Bay standout Josiah Greene to 55 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown after he scored seven in his previous game.

Lummi amassed 368 yards on 53 plays, limiting the Red Devils to 128 yards rushing on 34 attempts and 53 yards passing.

Hoskins stole the ball to set up his 35-yard touchdown catch. Lummi’s other big defensive play occurred when Jordan Deardorff recovered a fumble at midfield, setting the stage for Lummi’s score on the final play of the first half.

Lummi was whistled for 12 penalties – all but three of the five-yard variety – and never had a 15-yarder. Neah Bay was penalized 11 times for for 110 yards including five 15-yarders.

Lummi will finish the regular season with a home game on Thursday, Nov. 4, against Muckleshoot.
