FOOTBALL: Sequim’s Riley Cowan is Olympic League 2A MVP; Wolves, Riders represented on All-League team

SEQUIM — Record-setting Sequim senior quarterback Riley Cowan was selected as The Olympic League 2A Division Football MVP in All-League team voting conducted by league coaches.

Cowan broke Drew Rickerson’s previous all-time passing yardage (4,731) and career passing touchdown records (45) for Sequim this season, finishing his career with 6,845 yards passing and 64 TD passes. That included connecting on 146 of 269 passes for 2,114 yards, 19 touchdowns and 9 interceptions this season.

Cowan also ran for 392 yards and five TDs, kicked 18 of 20 PAT attempts and hit four field goals, including connecting on 3 of 3 in a win over North Kitsap.

Cowan also handled punting and kickoff duties for Sequim.

He was joined by five Wolves teammates on the first-team All-Olympic League squad, including two way-selections in Taig Wiker and Johnnie Young.

Wiker was a first-team choice in the secondary defensively and at running back, where he racked up 1,121 rushing yards and 12 TDs on the ground along with 33 catches for 368 yards and five TDs through the air.

Young, Sequim’s senior right tackle, was a first-team pick along the offensive line and a first-team selection at linebacker.

Senior wide receiver Kyler Rollness earned a first-team nod for the Wolves after catching a team-high 53 passes for 845 yards and 11 TDs. Rollness also was a second-team choice at kick returner.

Sequim senior defensive end Ben Cowan joined Wiker and Young on the first-team defense.

Sophomore Brandon Barnett was a first-team pick as long snapper and a second-team pick at center for the Wolves.

Sophomore wide receiver Michael Young, sophomore linebacker Lane Mote and senior defensive back Joey Oliver were second-team honorees for Sequim.

Port Angeles junior Anton Kathol was a first-team selection at linebacker and as punter for the Roughriders.

Senior defensive back Garrett Edwards also made the first team for Port Angeles.

Junior Tyler Bowen was a second-teamer at wide receiver and in the secondary for the Riders.

A pair of Port Angeles juniors, Cole Wash and Skyler Cobb, were voted to the second team offensive line.

North Kitsap senior running back Isaiah Kahana was picked as Offensive MVP, while Bremerton’s McCoy Retome was voted Defensive MVP.
