FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Opponents, venues times set for postseason teams

Times, dates and venues have been finalized for four North Peninsula football teams’ playoff battles this weekend.

The Sequim Wolves will play their 2A State Tournament opener at Lakewood outside of Everett at 7 p.m. Friday.

Sequim, the second-place finisher in the Olympic League 2A Division, was seeded 12th. Lakewood (8-1), a fifth seed, was second in the Northwest Conference 2A Sky League.

Sequim qualified for state by beating River Ridge 37-21 in the West Central District III 2A playoffs last week. Lakewood beat Liberty 14-10 in the Cougars’ district playoff win last week.

If the Wolves can win, they would play the winner of Ellensburg and Hockinson.

Three 1B teams from the North Olympic Peninsula are in the second round of the 1B Quad-District playoffs. Winners of these games will move on to the 1B state tournament next weekend.

Quilcene (7-1), the champion of the Sea-Tac 1B League, got a first-round bye last week and will play Evergreen Lutheran (8-1) at North Kitsap High School at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Though Evergreen Lutheran has a good win-loss record, the Rangers beat them earlier this season 58-34.

Neah Bay (7-1) will play Lummi for the third time this season at Forks High School at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Red Devils, who finished second in 1B Northwest League, have won two exciting, close shootouts over the Blackhawks (6-3) this season by scores of 54-42 and 64-56, so this promises to be a good game.

Crescent will have the toughest challenge of the three teams. The Loggers travel to the south part of the state to play an unbeaten Naselle team at 3 p.m. Saturday at Aberdeen High School.

Naselle (9-0) is arguably the best 1B team in the western half of the state. Crescent is 5-5 on the season and won its district playoff opener with a forfeit over Taholah.
