MONTESANO — The Forks girls wrestling team finished a close second to 1A Montesano in the District 4 1B/2B/1A wrestling tournament.
The Spartans finished with 213.0 points to Montesano’s 252.5. No other team had more than 188 points and there were a total of 28 teams at the tournament.
Forks sent six girls to the championship matches in their weight classes with two girls winning district championships. Lillanna Galeana finished first at 110 pounds, taking first with three straight pins. Jade Blair was first at 125 pounds, winning with a pair of pins and an injury default.
Making it to the championship matches in their weights and finishing second were Kinley Rondeau at 100 pounds, Flora Horejsi at 105, Peyton Johnson at 120 and Riley Tjepkema at 135 pounds.
LaRayne Blair came in fourth at 130 pounds and Viviana Luna was eighth at 120.
Most of these girls will be at the Mat Classic, which will be held at the Tacoma Dome beginning Thursday. The Forks boys, who won their district last weekend, will also have several wrestlers at the Tacoma Dome.
Port Angeles, Sequim boys
BREMERTON — The Sequim boys picked up four weight champions and finished third and Port Angeles sixth at the Olympic District 3 2A wrestling tournament.
The Wolves’ Ryan Spelker won his 126-pound weight class, beating Talan Newton of Port Angeles in the finals with a tight 5-4 decision.
Sequim’s Brandon Bair won at 106 pounds, beating Makhi Marion of Bremerton with a second-round pin. Jaymes Vilona took first at 144 pounds, winning the championship match with a 7-2 decision over Wyatt Trodgen of North Kitsap.
James Mason took first at 157 pounds with a 7-4 sudden victory over Wyatt Sloman of North Kitsap. Expect to see all four wrestlers at the Mat Classic next weekend.
The Wolves also had several wrestlers who finished third in their classes — Johnny Vilona, 132 pounds, Aiden Glenn, 165; Dylan Bowen, 215; and Max Silvilla, 285.
Sequim’s Finn Jones was fourth at 120 pounds, Riley Downs fifth at 138, Matthew Beaver sixth at 113.
Sequim finished with 204 points. Olympic won the district tournament with 295 points, while North Kitsap had 250.
For Port Angeles, Newton was second at 126, while Oliver Martinez was second at 165.
John Grubbs was fourth at 132 pounds, Cole Anderson fourth at 138, Quinn Messersmith fourth at 215, Michael Wilhelm fourth at 285, Jaron Tolliver fifth at 175, Cooper Nees fifth at 150, Lukas Teague fifth at 144 and Kolby Helvey sixth at 120.
Port Angeles finished with 146.5 points.
In a crossover tournament with South Puget Sound League wrestlers, also held in Bremerton, the Port Angeles fifth-place wrestlers competed. Nees took first place at 150 with an 8-5 decision over Scott Austin of Washington, while Teague was first at 144 with a second-round pin over Sterling Officer of Steilacoom.
Port Angeles, Sequim girls
BREMERTON — The Port Angeles and Sequim girls combined for three weight champions at the Olympic district meet.
Winning their weights were Lilly Lancaster at 115 pounds with a 17-0 technical fall over Evelyn Talbot of North Mason, and Bryelle Wopperer at 145 pounds with a pin at 18 seconds over Malia Moss of North Mason.
Bailey Stein of Sequim won her 120-pound weight class with a first-round pin over Nyla Rios of Bremerton.
Port Angeles’ Margaret Conkle was second at 105 pounds and Persephone Perry second at 125 pounds. Cynthia Rocha was fourth at 110 pounds and Clara Berry fourth at 155. Sequim’s Story Snow was third at 115 pounds.
Port Angeles finished with 65.5 team points. North Mason won the district with 196.5.
