RENTON — The East Jefferson track and field boys and girls both had a fantastic West Central District III meet, collecting six individual district championships and qualifying more than a dozen kids to state.
Meanwhile, Forks also qualified more than a dozen athletes to state at the District 4 2B meet.
The East Jefferson girls, with five district champions, finished third with 111 points. Bellevue Christian was first with 149 points and Vashon second with 117.
As expected, the East Jefferson girls did extremely well in the distance events with nine top-10 finishes in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs. Aliyah Yearian is the district champion in the 800 with a personal-record time of 2 minutes, 17.88 seconds, the champion in the 1,600 in a time of 5:07.33 and the champion in the 3,200 in a time of 11:31.10.
In all three of those events, Yearian has the fastest or second-fastest time statewide.
Yearian’s teammate Camryn Hines was second in the 800 (2:26.48) and third in the 1,600 (5:21.08), qualifying for state. The Rivals’ Fiona Fraser was third in the 3,200 (11:52.87), also qualifying for state. Fraser just missed on a state berth in the 1,600, finishing fourth (5:24.23).
East Jefferson’s Addy Asbell won the shot put with a distance of 33 feet, 11½ inches. Ellise Gardner won the javelin with a personal-record throw of 114-9.
The Rivals’ 4×400 relay team of Kaylen Pray, Hines, Frasier and Yearian finished second in a time of 4:24.08, qualifying for state. The East Jefferson 4×100 team (Sierra Emerson, Pray, Audrey Matthes and Stephanie Sanchez) was third in 52.49 and will make the trip to state.
The East Jefferson girls had some other solid finishes:
100 meters — Pray, fifth, 13.25
3,200 meters — Leah Ferland, sixth, 13:09.69; Sylvia Butterfield, eighth, 13:46.88.
Javelin — Sienna Emerson, sixth, 77-9.
1,600 meters — Hilina Taylor-Lenz, seventh, 6:09.48.
East Jefferson boys
The Rivals’ Reid Martin won the javelin with a personal-record throw of 154-7, qualifying for state.
Sebastian Manza is going to state in two events. He finished second in the 3,200 with a time of 9:52.79 and third in the 1,600 (4:36.70).
The 4×100 relay team of Austen Hammer, Jasper Dances, Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez and Gary Zambor qualified for state by finishing third in a time of 46.11.
East Jefferson finished fourth with 55 points. Bellevue Christian won district with 204 points.
Other solid finishes at district include:
4×400 relay (Dillon Page Castillo, Henri Huber, Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez, Manza), fifth, 3:47.57.
Triple jump —Paterson, fifth, 36-7¾; Huber, eighth, 33-9.
Shot put — Hammer, sixth, 37-6.
Long jump — Conner Paterson, sixth, 18-0.
100 meters — Lanphear-Ramirez, sixth, 11.82.
3,200 — Dustin Hines, seventh, 11:04.88.
Forks at 2B
CHEHALIS — Forks’ Nate Dahlgren is a district champion in the shot put, as his distance of 46-5 was good enough to win at the District 1/4 2B meet at W.F. West High School. Dahlgren will also go to state in the javelin, finishing third at 132-3 and the discus, coming in fourth at 129-5.
The top six finishers at the 2B level qualify for state.
Walker Rondeau was fourth in the javelin at 128-11, also going to state. Grady Earls finishes sixth in the long jump (18-4, personal record), to qualify for state.
The Forks girls did very well in the relays.
The Spartans’ 4×400 team (Moli Luong, Miley Blanton, Emery Damron, Leslie Hernandez-Beltran) finished second at 4:31.38 and the 4×200 team (Blanton, Erika Williams, Damron, Hernandez-Beltran) was third at 1:15.10.
Peyton Johnson qualified for state by finishing fifth in the javelin (95-8). Keana Rowley also qualified for state in the javelin, coming in sixth (92-8).
Williams had a personal record in the 200 meters, falling just short of qualifying for state by coming in seventh (28.16).
The boys finished eighth as a team with 44 points. Toledo won with 90 team points. The girls finished 10th with 27 points. Raymond won the district girls championship with 78 points.
