DISTRICT CROSS-COUNTRY: Gladfelter, Manza both win district

PA boys, Sequim girls, both EJ teams to state

TACOMA — Port Angeles’ Jack Gladfelter and East Jefferson’s Sebastian Manza both won district cross-country championships at the Westside Classic held at Chambers Creek.

Gladfelter, already an Olympic 2A League champion, won the 2A race in a time of 15 minutes, 38 seconds. Manza won the 1A race in a time of 16:51.8. His Rivals teammate, Soare Johnston, came in second with a time of 16:55.5.

The Port Angeles boys finished fourth as a team and will go to the state 2A meet as a team, sending seven runners. Maxwell Baeder finished fifth (16:13.9), Langdon Larson 18th (17:25.8), Kowen Kasten 28th (17:42.8), Jayden McLarty 77th (19:09.3), Bryce DeLeon 88th (19:24.3) and Aidan Butterworth 95th (19:32).

Port Angeles finished with 121 points. Sequim was 11th with 274 points (Like golf, lower scores are better in cross country). Kingston won the district team title with 84 points.

The Sequim girls finished fifth as a team with 174 points and will also send a full contingent to state. Finishing sixth for the Wolves was Kaitlyn Bloomenrader (20:42.3). Liberty Mavy was 16th (21:11.6), Sadie Mavy 43rd (23:27.7), Ahrya Klinger 48th (23:47.6), Aspen Goldner 89th (26:22) and Nikoline Updike 90th (26:32.3).

Also qualifying for the girls state meet was Port Angeles’ Leia Larson, who came in 18th with a time of 21:19.9. Her teammate Faerin Tait was 53rd (23:52.9) and Kathryn Jones was 91st (26:42.8). Port Angeles did not have enough runners for a team score. White River won the girls district championship with 71 points.

Sequim’s Owen Randall qualified for the boys state meet by finishing 19th (17:27.7). His teammate Collin Feik was 41st (18:07.5), Calem Klinger 57th (18:33.3), Sean Southard was 80th (19:13.1) and James Mason 100th (19:47).

1A meet

At the same site, the East Jefferson girls won the 1A district championship, despite missing Aliyah Yearian, their top runner. Yearian is out for the year with a hip injury.

Fiona Fraser finished third (20:17), Camryn Hines was fourth (20:32.2), Sylvia Butterfield sixth (21:40.8), Tadu Dollarhide eighth (21:57.1), Hilina Taylor-Lez 15th (23:41.9), Leah Ferland 16th (23:48.7) and Michael Gregg 20th (25:10.1).

The East Jefferson girls tallied 30 points to Klahowya’s 39 and Vashon’s 65.

For the East Jefferson boys, Henri Huber finished 16th (18:22.8), Indigo Gould 27th (19:39.4), Dustin Hines 38th (20:52.6), Rylen Kruse 39th (21:05.3) and Alex Lott 56th (31:07.8).

The East Jefferson boys finished third as a team with 84 points. Bellevue Christian won with 45. Both the East Jefferson boys and girls will go to state as full teams.

Forks

RAINIER — For the Forks boys, Spartans Kevin Camacho-Roldan and Nova Raupp qualified for the state 2B meet.

Camacho-Roldan finished 18th with a time of 19:03.58 at the District 4 1B/2B meet, while Raupp was 27th with a time of 19:20.39.

For the Forks girls, Moli Luong was 10th (23:47.37), Kendall Marshall 19th (26:31.49), Annika Leverington 24th (27:09.03), Hailey Garcia-Moog 33rd (38:31.85 and Erame Tost 34th (39:23.63).
