RENTON — Sequim’s defense did the job as the Wolves opened Class 2A West Central District Girls Basketball Tournament with a 47-28 win over the Lindbergh Eagles Thursday night.
“We struggled to get into an offensive flow this game, but defensively, we were focused on what was needed to win,” Sequim coach Linsay Rapelje said.
“We had great help defense by Hope Glasser and Jayla Julmist. And Jessica Dietzman, Abby Schroeder and Bobbi Sparks played amazing defense on their best players.,” she said.
Kalli Wiker led Sequim with 11 points, while Dietzman added nine and Glasser and Julmist pitched in with six apiece.
The Wolves (14-6) advanced to the district quarterfinals with the win and will take on defending district champs White River, with the date to be determined because of weather conditions.

King’s Way Chr. 53, Forks 40
VANCOUVER — The Forks girls went up against the No. 1 seed in the District 4 1A Tournament and put a scare into them deep into the second half.
The Spartans, the lowest seed in the tournament, went up against King’s Way Christian on Friday (one of the few games played in western Washington due to the snow), which finished 10-0 in the Trico 1A League (15-6 overall). Forks responded by holding a one-point lead at halftime and was still down just six points entering the fourth quarter.
“We played 28 to 29 minutes of good basketball. Unfortunately, the game is 32 minutes long,” said coach David Hurn.
Hurn said a couple of mistakes by the Spartans and a couple of big shots by King’s Way Christian allowed the Knights to finally open up a big lead in the fourth.
“I’m proud of the girls. They spent eight hours on the bus and played a great basketball game,” Hurn said.
Rian Peters led the Spartans with 19 points, while Jayden Olson had nine points.
The Spartans’ (2-6, 8-12) season continues Tuesday (tentatively, again because of the snow), either in Hoquiam or Vancouver against the winner of La Center (7-3, 10-10) and Montesano (6-2, 12-8).

PORT TOWNSEND — Friday’s Port Townsend-Seattle Christian Class 1A West Central District Loser-out girls basketball game was postponed due to weather conditions.
No make-up date for the loser-out game has been announced.
Quilcene 45, NW Yeshiva 36
QUILCENE — The Quilcene girls qualified for the Tri-District 1B Tournament by beating Northwest Yeshiva 45-36 for the final playoff spot out of the Sea-Tac 1B League.
Quilcene is scheduled to play Grace Academy in Marysville in a Tri-District game on Monday, weather permitting.
