DICK BROWN MEMORIAL FIRECRACKER: Wilder Senior holding court in host tournament

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Senior continued its strong start to its own Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Tournament on Thursday evening, getting a near complete-game outing from pitcher Zeke Schamdeke and some timely hitting in a 4-2 win over CBC Orange at Volunteer Field.

All four of Wilders’ runs came in the bottom of the sixth, breaking open a scoreless game.

Alex Angevine notched his second extra-base hit of the game after an earlier triple with one out, doubling to left field. A walk to Lincoln Bear moved Angevine into scoring position and he came home on an RBI single by Braydan White.

A Colton Romero fielders’ choice added the third run to the scoreboard and Rylan Politika closed out the scoring with a two-run double, bringing home White and Ezra Townsend for a 4-0 lead.

Schmadeke shut down CBC through six full innings, but ran into a little trouble in the final frame, allowing an infield single, a walk and an RBI double to see his lead trimmed to 4-1 and then inducing a sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning.

Schmadeke then notched his fourth strikeout of the contest, but gave up another single and a walk to bring the potential leading run to the plate. Forks’ Logan Olsen came on and recorded a swinging strikeout to preserve the victory.

Wilder Senior faced Lakeside Recovery after press deadline on Friday.
