DIAMOND SPORTS: Sequim softball holds down Kingston bats

SEQUIM — Sequim left-hander Lainey Vig was solid in the circle in the Wolves’ 5-2 softball victory over Kingston, allowing two runs on four hits while scattering six walks and striking out eight.

Leadoff hitter Hannah Bates doubled and came home ona Mikki Green sacrifice fly to stake Sequim to a 1-0 lead.

Jordan Kidd was hit by a pitch to open the second inning and stole second to move into scoring position. Sammi Bacon’s single advanced Kidd to third and she came home when Bates’ grounded out to second for a 2-0 Wolves’ lead.

An Angel Wagner solo home run and a two-run error on Taylee Rome’s hard-hit shot to right field scored Bacon and Bates to round out the Sequim offensive output.

The Wolves (9-3, 9-5) are a half game ahead of Olympic (8-3, 9-7) and Port Angeles (8-3, 13-3) heading into the final week of the regular season.

POULSBO — Lexie Smith homered twice and Taylor Worthington doubled and tripled, but the Roughriders couldn’t rally back after spotting the first-place Vikings (10-0, 13-0) an early four-run lead.

Cheyenne Zimmer and Heidi Leitz combined in the circle to allow seven runs on 10 hits and two walks, with six strikeouts for Port Angeles (8-3, 13-3).

Freshman Kennedy Rognlien also went deep for the Riders and Natalie Robinson singled and added a sacrifice fly.

Port Angeles hosts three contests next week with Kingston on Tuesday, North Kitsap on Thursday and rival Sequim on Friday.

Baseball Sequim 4, Olympic 3

BREMERTON — Lincoln Bear doubled to reach base and scored the eventual winning run for the Wolves in the sixth inning of Sequim’s regular season finale Thursday.

Zeke Schmadeke earned the win on the mound for the Wolves (11-9) after throwing four scoreless innings of relief, allowing four hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Bear also drove in Schmadeke on a first inning fielders’ choice.

Ethan Staples RBI double brought home Brayden White in the top of the fourth and Hunter Tennell brought home Staples on a sacrifice fly.
