DIAMOND SPORTS: Port Angeles’ Flodstrom, Hall and Forks’ Leverington faring well in college baseball, softball seasons

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Port Angeles’ Ethan Flodstrom is off to another all-star-caliber college baseball season, this time excelling as a redshirt senior for a second Lone Star Conference school.

The 2020 Port Angeles High School graduate, Wilder Baseball Club alumnus and former Peninsula Daily News All-Peninsula MVP is starring for Angelo State University, the top-ranked NCAA Division II team in the latest D2Baseball Top 25 poll.

A two-time First Team All-Conference outfielder for the University of Texas Permian Basin, Flodstrom was named to the LSC All-Tournament team for his performance on the diamond in 2024 and also was an NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association South Central Region Second Team choice.

He concluded the season with a .384 batting average, recording 81 hits; 21 of those were doubles, four were triples and four were home runs. He drove in 68 runners and scored 53 runs. He had a slugging percentage of .578, on base percentage of .489 and stole 12 bases. In the field, he had 95 putouts.

Now spending his COVID super senior season at Angelo State University, Flodstrom is on target to equal those numbers for the first-place Rams. Flodstrom is hitting .376 (35-for-93) with a home run, seven doubles and 26 RBIs. He’s scored 36 runs, has a slugging percentage of .484, an on-base percentage of .570 and has stolen seven bases.

Defensively, the right fielder has recorded outs on 19 of 19 attempts this season.

Flodstrom also does his work in the classroom as the business management major has been named to Commissioner’s honor roll three times.

The Rams are 26-6, 28-6 and in first place in the LoneStar Conference with the league tournament set May 2-4.

Leverington all-league

LACEY — Forks graduate Chloe Leverington earned selection to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s 2025 softball academic all-conference team, the conference announced this week.

This is the third consecutive all-academic honor for Leverington, a senior exercise science major with a 3.61 grade-point average.

Saint Martin’s University softball’s primary pitcher, Leverington has pitched in 20 of the Saints’ 28 games, posting an outstanding 13-1 record with one save and a 3.46 ERA.

The Saints (4-4, 19-9) are fifth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with 16 regular season contests remaining before the GNAC Tournament May 1-3.

To qualify for academic all-conference, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, must be in at least their second season competing for their team and must have competed on the field during the 2025 campaign.

Hall productive

SAN BERNADINO, Calif. — Port Angeles and Wilder Baseball product Wyatt Hall is making the most of his senior season at Cal State San Bernadino.

Hall recently recorded his first three-hit game of the season for the Coyotes, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs in an 8-6 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on March 29.

In 28 games played for the Coyotes, Hall is hitting .274 with three home runs, two triples, two doubles and 23 RBIs.

Hall also has been productive in the field with a .955 fielding percentage and just three errors in 66 chances while playing mainly in center field alongside fellow Port Angeles Lefties teammate Jeremy Giesegh.

Cal State San Bernadino is 14-10 and tied for fourth in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, 22-12 overall with the conference tournament coming up May 7-10.
