DIAMOND ROUNDUP: Forks sweeps; Port Angeles girls win behind Clark

MENLO — The Forks baseball team maintained its perfect won-loss record this weekend, getting huge games from Gunner Rogers and their two Logans — Logan Urvina and Logan Olson — in beating Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 2-1 and 6-1 in a doubleheader sweep.

In game 1, Urvina pitched the entire game in a pitchers’ duel, going seven innings and allowing five hits and four walks. The one run he allowed was unearned. He struck out eight.

Olson had two hits, a run and an RBI while Aiden Salazar also had two hits and an RBI. Ryan Rancourt hit a double.

In game 2, Rogers belted two home runs. He went 4-for-4 on the day with three runs scored and four RBIs.

Olson was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. He also picked up the victory on the mound, going 6⅔ innings and allowing just three hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out 12 batters. Dalton Kilmer got the final out to pick up a save.

Salazar again had two hits to go along with two stolen bases, while Kilmer had a hit, a run scored and a walk.

Forks (3-0 Pacific League, 7-0 overall) next has a doubleheader scheduled at Ocosta (1-1, 3-3) on Tuesday.

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Teagan Clark hurled a seven-hitter and the Roughriders softball team got three home runs from Lily Halberg and Peyton Rudd in a 4-1 win over Lynden.

Lynden is a good 2A team that came in to Friday’s game with a 5-1 record, but the Lions simply couldn’t generate any offense against Clark, who was coming off a combined perfect game Thursday against Kingston.

Clark pitched the entire game, striking out five and allowing no bases on balls.

“Teagan Clark pitched a gem. She was hitting her spots with all of her pitches and fielded her position well,” said coach Randy Steinman.

At the plate, Peyton Rudd went 2-for-2 with two home runs, two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk. Lily Halberg went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Zoe Smithson was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Riders did all their damage early, taking a 4-0 lead after three innings and riding Clark’s arm the rest of the way.

Port Angeles (5-1, 10-1) returns to Olympic 2A League at a 4 p.m. Tuesday game at Sequim (3-3, 7-3).
