PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles and Sequim girls runners made up five of the top-10 individual finishers in a five-team Olympic League cross country meet Wednesday on a 3.1-mile course through Lincoln Park and the Clallam County Fairgrounds.
The Roughriders broke through for the team victory with 47 points to edge out Kingston (51) and Sequim (52).
Wolves senior Dawn Hulstedt had the highest individual finish for area athletes, coming in second in 20 minutes, 42.57 seconds behind North Mason sophomore Alisha Carpenter’s time of 20.30.8.
Port Angeles junior Leia Larson was next in third place (21:13.61), while sophomore Miriam Cobb placed sixth in 22:04.65 and Faerin Tait ended up in seventh (22:20.53). Freshman Storey Schmidt came in 13th for the Riders in 22:53.37 and freshman Quinn Herr ended up 25th (25:48.33).
Freshman Marea Denton was 10th for Sequim (22:33.85), while sophomore Birdie Pyeatt came in 12th (22:48.79) and junior Manuela Valle Jover placed 15th (23:36.99) and senior Aspen Goldner finished 22nd (25:22.23).
Two top-10s
In the boys race, Easton Dempsey and Andre Campbell earned top-10 finishes to lead the Roughriders.
Dempsey placed ninth in 17:33.07, while Campbell was next for the Riders in 17:36.74 to come in 10th, Justin Garrett was 13th (18:05.52) while Lukas Teague (19:17.45) and Justin McClarty (19:17.71) were 19th and 20th.
Freshman Westley French led the Wolves’ boys, finishing 18th in 19:17.16.
Adrian Osborne was 24th for Sequim in 19:44.43, while Johnathan Tipton was 23rd in 19:42.69, Joshua Wakefield 26th in 20:11.93 and Jackson Hines 32nd (20:27.16).
Olympic senior Joshua Turner won the race in 16:24.19.
Olympic won the team portion with 24 points. Port Angeles was third with 71 points and Sequim placed fourth with 123 points.
