PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend had six top-10 finishers, including race winner Nathan Cantrell, as the Redhawk boys earned a cross country meet win in a 2-mile race Wednesday at Port Townsend Golf Course.
Cantrell, along with classmates Kincaid Gould, Silas DeWyse and Trillium DeWyse, were honored in a senior recognition ceremony before the meet, Port Townsend’s lone home meet of the season.
The Redhawks posted 23 team points to win the team contest over North Mason (41) and Bremerton (67).
Cantrell completed the course with a time of 10 minutes, 27 seconds, seven seconds faster than runner-up Noah Hasselblad of North Mason.
Gould was third for Port Townsend in 11:17 and junior Eli Lupton was fourth (11:31).
Silas DeWyse was seventh in 11:44 and Trillium DeWyse finished eighth (11:53).
Sophomore Max Allworth-Miles rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Redhawks, placing ninth in 11:56.
PT has two top finishes
Port Townsend senior Anika Avelino claimed the girls 2-mile race in 12:39.
Teammate Rachel Matthes, a Chimacum student who competes for Port Townsend during the regular season, was second (12:59).
Junior Gina Brown ended up sixth for the Redhawks (15:16).
Willow Bennett was 11th (16:06) and Indigo Casad 12th in 16:22 for Port Townsend.
North Mason edged out Port Townsend for the team victory, totaling 27 points to the Redhawks’ 30. Bremerton competed but did not have enough athletes for a team score.
Port Townsend will race at Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island on Wednesday.
