Lytvak, Cobb lead Riders runners

BAINBRIDGE — Cross country runners from Port Angeles and Sequim prepped for this weekend’s Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational by putting up some record times on a course built for speed.

“Great fast course today at Bainbridge,” Roughriders coach Rodger Johnson said of the 3.1-mile layout at Battle Point Park.

“Almost every runner had their personal best time for the season and have built some confidence for the Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational this weekend in Arlington.”

Johnson said Port Angeles senior Tymur Lytvak led the way as the Riders finished fourth as a team with 113 points, ahead of Sequim in fifth with 131. Bainbridge won the team competition with 58 points.

“[He] was our top finisher today, topping his old personal record by over a minute,” Johnson said of Lytvak.

Lytvak finished 11th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 57.2 seconds for Port Angeles.

Teammate Easton Dempsey was 30th in 18:36.9, while the Riders’ Jayden McLarty was 33rd in 18:57.2, Samuel Hayes finished 34th in 19:16.7 and Andre Campbell ended up 36th in 19:18.7.

Sequim’s best boys finish was Colby Ellefson, 17th in 18:12.9.

Cayden Beauregard placed 32nd in 18:55, Reid Randall was 35th (19:18.3), Solas McGruther 39th in 19:22.6 and Adrian Osborne 40th in 19:22.8.

Cobb leads Riders

Port Angeles saw four runners compete in the girls’ race.

“Freshman Miriam Cobb was our top female finisher with a new personal best as well,” Johnson said.

Cobb placed 11th overall in 22:47.5.

Junior Faerin Tait came in 18th in 24:12; sophomore Evian Moniz was 51st in 30:41 and freshman Mirabel Palacios finished 52nd in 30:41.3

Sequim had three runners compete in the girls’ meet. Aspen Goldner placed 23rd (24:52.7), Birdie Pyeatt was 29th in 25:15.5 and Mia Kirner 30th in 25:32.1.

Bainbridge claimed the girls’ team competition with 21 points.

PORT ANGELES — Doubles duos did the work for the Riders in a close win over the Spartans.

“Bainbridge used a little different line-up this time, so we really relied on our doubles to get this victory,” said coach Brian Gundersen.

Port Angeles (9-1) swept the doubles matches without dropping a set.
