SEQUIM — North Olympic Peninsula runners dominated the Olympic League cross country meet at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
The Sequim boys and Port Angeles girls won the team titles, and Port Townsend senior Ryan Clarke took the boys title and Port Angeles freshman Gracie Long won the girls race.
Clarke finished in 16 minutes, 1 second, ahead of Sequim’s Brendon Despain, who finished second overall with a time of 16:26.46.
The Wolves had the next four finishers, too.
Jackson Oliver was third (16:30) for the Wolves, Mikey Cobb was fourth (16:31), C.J. Daniels placed fifth (16:34) and Peter Ohnstad (16.37) came in sixth.
Sequim finished with 20 points well ahead of second-place Port Angeles, which had 90.
The Roughriders’ highest placer was Peter Butler, who came in eighth in 16:42. Simon Shindler was 10th with a time of 16:53 for Port Angeles.
Sequim’s Chris Jeffko was 11th and Port Townsend’s Brennan LaBrie came in 14th.
In the girls race, the Riders had 26 to take first ahead of Sequim with 55 points, as the two teams claimed each of the top five places.
Long won the race by more than a minute, finishing in 19:00.84.
Wolves junior Waverly Shreffler was second with a time of 20:12.83, followed by Port Angeles’ Annika Pederson (20:56.10) and Willow Suess (20:57.43) and Sequim’s Emily Webb (21:05.08).
Port Townsend’s highest finisher was senior Hanna Trailer, who came in seventh. Other area top 10s were earned by Lael Butler and Madelyn Dougherty, both of Port Angeles.
Sequim’s Audrey Shingleton placed 11th.
Forks at Evergreen meet
MONTESANO — The Spartans had a tough day at the races at the Evergreen League meet, with boys team placing fifth out of six teams and the girls third out of four.
Alan Ensastegui was Forks’ highest-placing individual runner Tuesday, finishing seventh in the boys race in 18:16.
“I wasn’t happy with how I ran,” Ensastegui said.
“I should have paired up with the leader and tried to keep up with him, but I didn’t and I ran [1-mile splits] of 5:12 and 6:30. I should do better than that.”
Freshman Samuel Gomez finished 18th in 19:21.
On the girls side, Tristen Williams placed ninth with a time of 21:48, while teammate Kari Larson was just behind Williams in 10th in 21:56. Brooke Peterson ended up in 15th place after running a 23:16.
The top 20 placers advance to the district race Saturday at the Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.
