PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Gracie Long and Lauren Larson finished first and second, respectively, to propel the Roughriders to a girls cross country win over Sequim and Klahowya in the final tuneup before next week’s Olympic League Championships.
Long kept up her sensational senior season with another race victory, her seventh of the season. She finished the course in a season-record time of 19 minutes, 13.2 seconds in the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) in Wednesday’s race at Lincoln Park.
Larson was close behind in 19:31.45 for the Riders.
Port Angeles dominated the meet with 18 points, while Klahowya totaled 45 points and Sequim had 81.
Eight Riders’ runners finished in the top 10.
Madelyn Dougherty was fourth with a time of 20:27.58 and Ella Holland fifth in 21:08.7.
Sequim’s Kaitlyn Viada finished 15th with a time of 23:33.57 to lead the Wolves. Jessica German was 16th in 24:19.27.
Clallam Bay’s Kaylin Signor also ran in the race, finishing 20th with a time of 25:01.59.
Bingham second
On the boys side, Klahowya’s Lucas Becker led the Eagles to a meet win with a first-place finish (16:41.34). Klahowya totaled 23 points and Sequim (49) edged Port Angeles (52) for second.
Murray Bingham placed second with a time of 17:24.42 to lead the Wolves.
Gabriel Long was Port Angeles’ fastest finisher, taking fifth in 17:32.7.
Thomas Shaw (17:35.63) was seventh for the Riders and Cameron Butler (17:47.56) rounded out the top 10 for Port Angeles.
Sequim’s Alec Shingleton was the other Wolves’ runner in the top 10, placing eighth in 17:40.73.
Boys and girls teams from all league schools will compete in the Olympic League Championships at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course in Sequim next Thursday.
The girls race is set for 4:30 p.m. with the boys following at 5 p.m.
