LAKEWOOD — The Port Angeles cross-country team netted a second-place and a third-place finish in different divisions at the prestigious Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational featuring more than 5,000 runners from three states.
Cross-country runners from Washington, Oregon and California competed in the massive event. Teams from Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend attended.
The best area showing was by Jack Gladfelter of the Roughriders, who finished second in the Boys JV under 21 minutes division. He had a time of 16 minutes, 46.9 seconds. Thomas Shaw of the Riders finished ninth in the same race with a time of 17:12.7.
Kynzie DeLeon of Port Angeles finished third in the girls over 22:30 division with a time of 19:05.3. Her teammate Lauren Larson raced in the tougher girls under 22:30 division, finishing 24th with a time of 18:21.5, the second-best time of any Washington 2A runner and a personal record for Larson.
One Washington 1A runner beat Larson and all the other runners ahead of her were from large schools in Washington, Oregon and California.
Nathan Cantrell of Port Townsend finished 49th in the boys under 18 minutes division, with an outstanding 5K time of 16:11.4. That is a personal record and among the six fastest 1A times in the state.
The highest Redhawks’ finish was 20th by Camry Hines in the girls JV 24-26 minutes division with a time of 23:11.0.
For Sequim, the best showing was by Riley Pyeatt, who finished 45th in the girls under 22:30 division with a time of 18:53.3, a personal record and the fifth-fastest 2A girls’ time in the state.
Forks at Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite
LACEY — Running in the silver division, Forks’ Madelyn Archibald finished fourth with a time of 21:00.65 in the Bill Kehoe South Sound Invitational held at St. Martin’s University.
Among the boys, Forks’ Wesley Camacho finished ninth with a time of 17:47.45.
