WOODLAND — The Forks girls finished third at the District 4 1A Cross Country Championship and will compete as a team at the Class 1A State Cross Country Championship at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco next Saturday.
Forks’ Marissa Bailey finished third in the girls’ race Saturday with a time of 20 minutes, 36 seconds. The winning time was set by Natasha Lewis of La Center at 19:46.
The Forks girls placed four runners in the top 13. Enid Ensastegui finished eighth with a time of 21:19, Madison Carlson 11th with a time of 21:58 and Madelyn Archibald 13th with a time of 22:32.
La Center won the girls race with 27 points, to 51 for for Columbia(White Salmon) and 57 for Forks. There were six teams at District.
Forks previously won the Evergreen League 1A championship.
The Spartans’ boys team narrowly missed out on advancing to state, finishing fourth out of 11 teams.
Josue Lucas finished second with a time of 17:21 nine seconds behind district champion Nate Bead of La Center.
Samuel Gomez finished 14th in 18:09 to advance to the state meet for Forks. The top three teams and top 21 individuals on each side advanced to state.
Columbia (White Salmon) won the district boys’ meet with 39 points. La Center had 48 points and Montesano 80.
Other district races were late Saturday. Results for Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend were posted online on Peninsuladailynews.com and will appear in Monday’s edition.
