COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Pirates fall in OT to first-place Bellevue

Hope Glasser tallies 9 points, 13 rebounds

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College women’s basketball team got a game-tying shot from Tasiah Little with a minute left in the game to force overtime, but gave up a pair of 3-point shots in the extra period, falling 60-55 to a first-place Bellevue team on Saturday.

Keeli-Jade Smith came off the bench to lead the Pirates with 15 points and three steals. Tayvia Cabatbat scored 10 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Coach Alison Crumb pointed out that the Pirates lost to the veteran 8-1 Bellevue squad by 20 earlier in the season.

“We played really hard. They battled for the whole game. It was a fun game for the fans to watch,” Crumb said.

Sequim High School graduate Hope Glasser led the Pirates with 13 rebounds to go with her nine points and five assists. She also had a crucial 3-point shot in overtime to keep the Pirates in the game.

“I’m so proud of her. She’s been playing great. She’s works hard. We’re starting to see how good she can be,” Crumb said.

Bellevue was hanging on to a 50-48 lead when Little made a layup with 1:02 left. Bellevue got three cracks at a game-winning shot in the final minute, but missed all three, including a shot with four seconds left.

In overtime, Peninsula took the lead with a Little layup, but Bellevue’s Mo Bungay responded with a pair of 3-pointers to give Bellevue a 56-52 lead with 1:18 left.

Glasser made a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left in overtime to make it 56-55. The Bulldogs’ Adyson Clabby scored a layup with 25 seconds left to open the Bellevue lead back up to 58-55. The Pirates got off two 3-pointers in the final fiveseconds, but couldn’t get either shot to fall.

Peninsula (4-4) plays a makeup game at home at 7 p.m. today against Skagit Valley (3-6).
