COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD: Sequim graduate Brocklesby leading decathlon after first day of Western Washington University meet

BELLINGHAM — Sequim High School graduate Jayson Brocklesby leads the decathlon at the Western Washington University Multi Event Meet after the first day of competition Thursday at Civic Stadium.

The Olympic College sophomore posted 3,102 points in five disciplines after the first day of the two-day meet.

Olympic is the lone two-year school competing at the meet against NCAA Division II and Division III athletes.

Brocklesby ran the 100-meter in 11.53 seconds, and the 400 in 55.95 seconds.

“We’ve been fighting weather and head winds here, so the times aren’t great, but this was a great performance,” Olympic coach Dan Dittmer said.

Brocklesby’s shot put went 35 feet, 8 inches, his long jump was 18-05.75 and his high jump was 6-04.25.

The two-day event concludes today.

Brocklesby will wrap up the meet by competing in the 110-meter high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1,500.
