COLLEGE SPORTS: Update on Port Angeles graduates Peet, Long; Forks’ Dahlgren

TACOMA — Port Angeles graduate Grayson Peet is nearing the end of his senior college basketball season with Pacific Lutheran University.

Peet was a multi-sport star for the Roughriders, excelling as a guard on the basketball court. He graduated in 2017.

Peet knocked down two 3-point baskets in his final home game as a Lute, a 98-82 win over archrival Puget Sound.

A reserve guard, Peet added two rebounds, an assist and a steal in the victory.

He was interviewed by PLU athletic staff after the game and asked his thoughts on his Lute career.

Head men’s basketball coach Chad Murray was full of praise for Peet after the game.

“Grayson Peet has been with us from day one and has been through every bump, over every hurdle and is finishing his career with the respect and love of his teammates and coaches for his selfless leadership and dedication to our culture,” Murray said. “Thanks Grayson.”

Peet and the Lutes will wrap up their abbreviated season with contests at Whitman this weekend and Whitworth next weekend.

Long at Corban

SALEM, Ore. — Gracie Long is still running strong at the college level for Corban University.

Long is a Port Angeles long-distance runner and basketball player who graduated in 2018.

She recently stepped up for Corban, with her second-place overall finish helping the women’s squad to a team victory in the first cross country meet held on the Corban campus since 2016.

Long registered a time of 15 minutes, 54.9 seconds to land in second place and serve as the Warriors’ top scorer. Bushnell’s Tea Chatelain was the individual winner of the event, clocking a blistering 15:38.5 mark in the cold and wet conditions.

I tried to make sure my footing was good the whole time,” Long said of the race in a post-meet interview. “I had one slip, but I caught myself in time.”

Dahlgren at EWU

CHENEY — Luke Dahlgren, a Forks High School Class of 2019 graduate, played in Eastern Washington football’s season-opening 28-21 loss to Idaho last Saturday.

Dahlgren redshirted as a freshman in 2019, earning Scout Team Player of the Week honors, and is listed on the Eagles’ two-deep roster as the backup center heading into the team’s home game with Northern Arizona on Saturday.

Dahlgren also is doing well in the classroom, posting a 3.45 GPA during his freshman year.
