PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will induct five new members into its Pirate Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Peninsula Golf Course Clubhouse.
Earlier that day will be the Pirate Golf Tournament, one of Peninsula College’s main athletic fundraising events.
The evening will celebrate the 2010 Peninsula College men’s soccer team, Howard “Scooter” Chapman, Jim Clem, the late Jim Lunt, and Rosemary Moorhead. It begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. and the induction ceremony will follow at 7 p.m.
“It promises to be a very special evening,” Rick Ross, Associate Dean for Athletics and Student Life, said.
“I’m looking forward to reuniting with all of these former Pirates, and Pirate supporters, and hearing their stories.”
Admission to the event, which is sponsored by Windermere Realty, is free and no pre-registration is required. There will be snack food and a no-host bar.

Golf tournament
Open spots remain for the Pirate Golf Tournament, according to tournament director and Peninsula men’s basketball coach Mitch Freeman.
The 36-team scramble-format tournament is at The Cedars at Dungeness on Saturday at 9 a.m.
“We are on track for the biggest field we have had since running the tournament at The Cedars at Dungeness,” Freeman said.
Participants in this year’s event will be treated to more prizes for long drives, closest-to-the-pin competitions, hole-in-one competitions and team winners.
“Coach Freeman and his tournament committee have put together a great event,” Ross said.
“The proceeds go to support athletic scholarships. The financial support from this event, from Pirate Casino Night, and from our annual sponsors and boosters directly contributes to our success.
“This year, our four teams won four conference championships, they placed first, second, third and top-10 in the Washington-Oregon Northwest Athletic Conference and we had the highest athletic grade point average in our modern history.
“That would not be happening without that community support.”
The entry fee is $100 and includes greens fee, golf cart, tee prize and lunch.
Golfers are encouraged to bring extra cash to participate in a variety of drawings and games.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. A shotgun start follows at 9 a.m.
