PA’s Lunt named Softball Athlete of the Week

VANCOUVER — Port Angeles product Lauren Lunt was named Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Athlete of the Week after hitting three home runs in Lower Columbia’s 7-5 and 10-6 softball doubleheader victories last Saturday against Clark College.

“Lauren is hardworking and a selfless teammate,” said Red Devils head coach Traci Fuller. “She has put in a substantial amount of innings as catcher lately, while also producing runs with timely hits and power at the plate. She has a competitive attitude, is a great ball player, and is a joy to have on our team — making her very deserving of this award.”

Lunt drilled a two-run dinger and also doubled in the first game and hit a three-run shot and followed with a solo homer as Lower Columbia claimed the nightcap.

Teammate Nizhnoi Wheeler, also of Port Angeles, picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle for Lower Columbia.

Lunt went 5 for 7 on the day with seven RBIs and four runs.

On the season, Lunt is hitting .450 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs and has a team-high .825 slugging percentage.

A sophomore catcher/designated player, Lunt is a 2017 Port Angeles High School graduate.

Twins Mechelle and Shanya Nisbet of Chimacum and Port Angeles’ Taylar Clark are all playing for the Rangers (15-13, 18-19).
