PORT ANGELES — Ten Peninsula College soccer players signed letters of intent to continue their careers at four-year universities Wednesday on national signing day.
“As the program has progressed over the last five years, I find myself talking less about winning games and more about where our players have gone upon graduation from Peninsula,” said Kanyon Anderson, who served as head coach for the women and men this year.
“The goal is to help the athletes earn their degree, improve as students and athletes and earn a chance to play at the next level.”
Port Angeles High School graduate Paxton Rodocker will play her junior and senior seasons at Mississippi Valley State, a Division I university in Itta Bena, Miss.
Others Peninsula women’s players signing to play at Division I schools include Kayla Bell, who will play Arkansas-Little Rock, Alyssa Bertuleit with San Jose State and Emily Flinn with Georgia Southern
Kasie Lough and Solana Ashe, are both going to Division II Vancouver Island University, while Larkyn Nelson signed with Division II Hawaii Pacific University.
Signing Wednesday from the men’s team are Victor Sanchez, who will play at University of Great Falls, an NAIA college in Montana; Caio Maciel, who is going to Division II Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina; and Keevan Webb, who signed with Simon Fraser University, a Division II college in Burnaby, B.C.
“I am happy to see that they took care of things on the field and in the classroom and still have a love for the game,” Anderson said of this class of sophomores.
“This group will continue to represent the program well after they move on to universities and beyond.”
A number of other sophomores will play on following their graduations from Peninsula in June, but they have yet to decide on colleges for which to play.
