COLLEGE SOCCER: Port Angeles’ Millie Long tallies four-goal game for Cal Poly, Humboldt

SEATTLE — It only took two games for former Roughrider and former Pirate to make history for the Cal Poly, Humboldt, women’s soccer team.

Millie Long, a record-setting basketball and soccer star for both Port Angeles High School and Peninsula College, became the first member of the Lumberjacks to score four goals in a game, leading Cal Poly, Humboldt, to a 4-3 victory over Seattle Pacific this weekend in Seattle.

It was also the first time that Cal Poly, Humboldt, based in Arcata, Calif., had ever beaten Seattle Pacific, a Division II soccer power.

Long scored her first goal in the 20th minute, but the Lumberjacks found themselves down in the second half by a score of 3-1 when Long scored her second goal in the 51st minute. She tied the match at 3-3 in the 77th minute, then won the game with a goal with two seconds left in non-stoppage time.

The victory improved Cal Poly, Humboldt’s, record to 2-0. The Lumberjacks are an NCAA Division II school athletically.

One of Long’s teammates for the Lumberjacks is her former Pirate teammate Grace Johnson, who played high school soccer for Chimacum. Johnson had two goals in an exhibition match against Edge Hill United in Cairns, Australia, in August.
