PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula soccer men and women continued their dominance over the North Division with victories at Wally Sigmar Field, though the men had a far closer game than the women.
The Pirates men won 2-1 against Edmonds on Saturday, having to come from behind to pull out the match. The women won 7-0 with their eighth shutout in 12 games.
The Pirates men and women are both undefeated and in first place in the North Division.
Men’s game

The Pirates got behind the Tritons when Edmonds scored in the 32nd minute. Two of their leading scorers came through afterward.
Nico Hernandez tied the match at the end of the first half with an unassisted goal. Mason Haubrich scored unassisted in the 68th minute to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead. It was Haubrich’s eighth goal of the year and Hernandez’s fifth.
Despite the close score, Peninsula dominated on shots with 15 to Edmonds’ seven. The Pirates had five shots on goal while the Tritons had four.

Edmonds, despite having a losing record, has played Peninsula tough this season as the only slight blemish on the Pirates’ otherwise perfect record — a 0-0 draw — came against the Tritons on Sept. 14.
The win puts Peninsula College six points ahead of second-place Everett with seven matches to go as the Pirates are gunning for their first North Division title since 2016.
Peninsula (7-0-1 22 points, 10-0-1) next plays at heated rival Whatcom (3-3-1, 4-5-1) at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. Whatcom won the North in 2017 and 2018 but appears to down slightly this year.
Women’s game

The women got two goals from Miya Clarke and two more from Chimacum’s Grace Johnson in overwhelming the winless Tritons.
Clarke ended up with six total points in the match as she also had two assists.
Sammy Howa had a goal and an assist while Sam Oliveira and former Port Angeles Roughrider Kyrsten McGuffey each had assists.

Andrea Kenagy made four saves to earn the shutout. Johnson now has six goals on the season.
The Pirates had 13 total shots on goal and 16 total shots to Edmonds’ four. The women have now outscored their opponents this season 43-5 and they have opened up a huge 9-point lead over second-place Everett.
Peninsula (8-0-0 24 points, 12-0-0) has a tough road test Tuesday as their next opponent only has one loss all year. They play at Whatcom (3-1-3, 6-1-3) at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
