EDMONDS — The Peninsula College soccer women got a goal from former Port Angeles Roughrider Kyrsten McGuffey and shut out Edmonds 2-0 to remain unbeaten in North Division play.
The Pirates held Edmonds to zero shots on goal in Saturday’s match. In fact, Edmonds had no shots, period.
Both of Peninsula’s goals came in the first half. McGuffey’s goal was assisted by Breanne Kuni. Sam Oliveira, coming off a hat trick in her previous match, scored another with an assist to Toni Powsey.
Peninsula boosted its record to 3-0-0 in the North Division and 7-0-0 overall, giving up just three goals in seven matches. The Pirates next host an undefeated team in Whatcom (1-0-2, 4-0-2) at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Men’s Soccer Peninsula 0, Edmonds 0
EDMONDS — Despite outshooting Edmonds 12-3 and having a man advantage for 40 minutes, the Peninsula men had to settle for a 0-0 tie with Edmonds.
The Pirates had six shots on goal to the Tritons’s two. Edmonds’ Rofaiel Dawood was sent off in the 51st minute with a red card, but the Pirates couldn’t exploit the man advantage.
Keeper Evan Scholes made two saves for the Pirates to earn the shutout.
The draw was the first blemish on the Pirates’ record. They came in to Saturday’s match unbeaten. It was the fourth shutout for the Pirates in six games this year.
Peninsula (2-0-1 7 points, 5-0-1 overall) fell into second place in the North Division with the tie behind undefeated and untied Everett (3-0-0 9 points).
The Pirates have a big match at 4 p.m. Wednesday against Whatcom, one of their biggest rivals in the North Division the past two seasons. The Orcas (1-1-1, 2-3-1) have won the North Division the past two years while Peninsula has finished in second place behind them.
