COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula men, women shut out Edmonds

EDMONDS — The Peninsula College soccer men got two goals each from Joey Hollimon and Cesar Gervacio and back on the winning track with a 4-0 shutout on the road over Edmonds.

Darius Ochoa picked up the shutout.

Hollimon scored both his goals in the first half. He was assisted by Sergio Reyes on his first goal and Manuel Galiano on his second. Gervacio scored his goals in the second half. He was assisted by Calvin Aguirre and Noah Scofield.

The Pirates outshot Edmonds 11-2.

The win keeps the Pirates within striking range of first-place Whatcom, which tied with Peninsula last week. The Pirates (3-0-2 in the North Division) are in second place with 11 points while Whatcom (4-0-1) leads with 13 points.

With his two goals, Gervacio has nine for the season and is in second place in the Northwest Athletic Conference in goals, one behind Everett’s. He is also second in overall points with 20. Hollimon is tied for sixth in the NWAC with seven goals and he is fifth in the NWAC with 16 points.

Peninsula (5-1-2 overall) next plays at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Shoreline.

Women’s Soccer Peninsula 10, Edmonds 0

EDMONDS — The defending NWAC champion Peninsula soccer women continued their dominance so far this season with a 10-0 shellacking of Edmonds.

Four different Pirates scored a pair of goals — Madelene Parton, Janis Martinez- Ortiz, Jayna Morikawa and Sydney Warren. Emelie Small had a goal and an assist, while Shantel Torres-Benito scored a goal. Jordyn DiCintio, Kelly Kevershan, Nicolette Paredes and Brianna Duran all added assists.

Peninsula outshot Edmonds 22-1. Goalie Kassidy Zinda is credited with the shutout.

The undefeated, untied women have outscored their North Division opponents 43 to 1 in five matches and are outscoring their opponents 59-5 in eight matches.

With her two goals, Warren is now leading the NWAC in goals with 11. Parton is in third place with eight goals and three different Pirates — Martinez-Ortiz, Torres-Benito and Taylor Graham — have six goals each.

Warren is also leading the NWAC with 25 points while Parton is third with 19. Martinez-Ortiz is sixth in the conference with 17 points.

Peninsula (5-0-0, 8-0-0) next plays at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at Shoreline.
