SHORELINE — The Peninsula men and women’s soccer teams maintained their tight grips on first place in the North Division with a pair of road wins against Shoreline.
The women won 5-1 to remain undefeated on the season while the men won 6-0.
The women got goals from NWAC goal-scoring leader Sam Oliveira and from Port Angeles Roughrider Krysten McGuffey. It was Oliveira’s 11th goal of the season, while McGuffey scored her second goal for the Pirates. McGuffey also added an assist on a goal by Jordan Zarate.
Also scoring goals were Toni Powsey and Miya Clarke. Demonstrating their dominance over a rebuilding program, the Pirates had a whopping 36 shots, including 23 shots on goal. The Dolphins had just one shot on goal in the 80th minute.
That Shoreline goal late in the match snapped a 380-minute-long scoreless streak by the Pirates. Peninsula was just 10 minutes away from its fourth-straight shutout.
The Peninsula women (6-0-0 18 points, 10-0-0) next play at Skagit Valley (2-3-1 7 points, 3-5-1) at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The Pirates got two goals from NWAC goal-leader Hide Inoue, cruising against the Dolphins after taking a 4-0 lead into the half.
Also scoring goals were Mason Haubrich, Isael Lopez-Plascencia, Yuya Yamamoto and Emmanuel Lopez-Morales. Picking up assists were Inoue and Nico Hernandez.
After this game, Inoue is tied for the lead in the NWAC with eight goals, while Haubrich is second in the NWAC with seven tallies. Inoue is second in the league in points with 18, while Haubrich is fourth in points with 16.
The Pirates, who beat Shoreline 9-0 earlier this season, peppered the Dolphins with 17 shots, 15 of them on-goal. Peninsula goalkeeper Evan Scholes was actually busy in this match, making five saves to earn the shutout.
It was the Pirates’ sixth shutout of the season. Peninsula has allowed just three goals in nine matches.
