SHORELINE — The No. 1-ranked Peninsula College men’s soccer team remained perfect, hanging on for a tough 3-1 win over Shoreline on Saturday.
Three of the goals were scored in the first 19 minutes of the game. Peninsula got on the board in the second minutes with a goal by Ezrah Ochoa. Shoreline knotted the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 12th minute and the Pirates regained the lead with a goal by Koya Kimura.
After the flurry of early goals, the game settled down for the rest of the half. Edwin Diaz scored an insurance goal for the Pirates in the 56th minute.
Ochoa’s goal was his seventh of the season, the second-best in the Northwest Athletic Conference. Teammate Nil Grau leads the NWAC with 10 goals.
Despite the relatively low score, the Pirates peppered the goal with shots — 27 in total, forcing Shoreline’s keeper to make 15 saves. Laurin Lettow made three saves in goal for the Pirates to earn the victory.
Peninsula (5-0, 8-0) returns home to face Bellevue (3-2, 4-3) at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday for Pirate Proud Day.
The Peninsula women (4-0 6-0), also ranked No. 1 in the NWAC, finally get to play again, also versus Bellevue (4-0, 5-1) in an important game for first place in the North Division. That game is at 2 p.m. The women have not played since Sept. 21.
