COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula men and women enjoy shutout victories to cap regular season

EVERETT — Peninsula College’s North Region champion men’s and women’s soccer teams each completed the regular season with shutout victories over Everett on Wednesday.

Sam Oliveira scored her Northwest Athletic Conference-leading 20th goal of the season in the 23rd minute to lead the Pirate women to a 1-0 defeat of the Trojans.

Peninsula goalkeepers Alycia Flora, Chloe Keenan-Merlo and Andrea Kenagy combined in net on the shutout.

The Pirates (15-0-0, 19-0-0) have now won 32 consecutive games and have gone 39 games without a defeat — both marks stretching back to the 2018 season.

Peninsula will await the result of Wednesday’s first-round playoff contest between East No. 3 Spokane (10-6-1) and West No. 2 Bellevue (13-3-1).

The winner of that match will advance to face the Pirates at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Men’s game

The Pirate men (12-1-2, 15-1-2) dispatched the playoff-bound Trojans (9-5-1, 12-5-3) 2-0.

Peninsula wasted little time getting on the board as Israel Lopez-Plascencia notched a second-minute goal off an assist by Emmanual Lopez-Morales.

That score stood up until Theodore Baiye added an insurance goal assisted by Jonathan De Motta in the 73rd minute.

Goalkeeper Evan Scholes earned the shutout — his 10th on the season.

Peninsula will await the winner of Wednesday’s match between East No. 3 Wenatchee Valley (7-4-4) and West runner-up Highline (8-6-1).

The Pirates will host the winner as part of an NWAC Quarterfinal doubleheader at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College on Saturday, Nov. 9.
