SALEM, Ore. — Goalkeepers Kasie Lough and Angel Guerra both recorded shutouts for Peninsula College’s soccer teams on the road against Chemeketa.
The women’s team won 11-0 and the men beat the Storm 3-0 in NWAACC action.
Next up for both teams are key divisional matchups with Highline Community College at Wally Sigmar Field.
The Thunderbirds are second in the men’s and women’s NWAACC West Division standings, while the Pirates are first in both.
Bri Afoa had her second consecutive hat trick for the Pirate women, who move to 6-0 in conference play (7-2 overall).
Brenda Torres added two goals and two assists, and Bronte Fitzsimmons scored a goal and assisted on three others.
Fitzsimmons leads the NWAACC in assists with 10 on the season, and his fourth in scoring with 22 points.
With six goals in the last two games, Afoa now has 10 on the season, which ranks third in the conference. She is third in points with 23.
“This is the second game in a row where we played aggressive and competed for the entire 90 minutes,” Peninsula coach Kanyon Anderson said after Saturday’s game.
“When we do that, we can be pretty good.
“I am pleased we got the shutout as well.”
The Highline women’s team (5-1, 8-1-1) was undefeated until falling to Clackamas 1-0 on Saturday.

Peninsula 3, Chemeketa 0
SALEM, Ore. — Guerra had five saves to hold the NWAACC’s second leading team scoreless in a wet and windy game played on a grass field.
Guerra is tied for first in the NWAACC with four shutouts.
“Chemeketa played us very tough,” Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.
“It was very hard to move the ball around with the wind, but our guys kept fighting and figured out how to win.”
The game was scoreless until Alex Martinez scored in the 75th minute. Caio Macial had the assist.
Christian Martinez made it 2-0 eight minutes later off a pass from Ash Apollon.
In the 89th minute, Alex Martinez found the back of the net again, with Steven Rodriguez earning the assist.
Alex Martinez now has 19 goals on the season.
Against Highline (3-1, 7-2-1), the Pirates will face a defense that has allowed only eight goals this season, which is tied for the best mark in the NWAACC.
