PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men got a goal in the 90th from Sterling Penninston-John to beat Edmonds 1-0 at Sigmar Field, while the women battled the Tritons to a 1-1 tie .
Despite the draw, the women remain tied for first place in the North Division as both the Pirates and the Tritons have identical 4-0-1 league records.
It was the third straight shutout for the men and their fourth shutout overall as they have gone more than 286 minutes without giving up a goal. In fact, in eight matches, the Pirates have given up just six goals.
The men are in an interesting dogfight in the North. With the win, they are at 3-1-1 (10 points), Whatcom 3-0-2 (11 points) and Everett 4-1-0 in first (12 points). The men have tied Whatcom and lost 2-1 to Everett with two more meetings against both squads.
Penninston-John’s goal was assisted by Yuya Yamamoto. The Pirates heavily outshot the Tritons with 21 shots to Edmonds’ eight and 10 shot on goals to Edmonds’ five.
The Peninsula men (3-1-1, 4-3-1) will play at Shoreline at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Women’s Soccer
Peninsula 1, Edmonds 1
The Pirates peppered a pair of goalies with 14 shots on goal, but had to settle for a 1-1 tie with the Tritons. The two teams came in to the match tied for first in the North and remain tied.
After Edmonds got ahead 1-0 in the 24th minute, Emilee Greve scored the Pirates’ goal in the 31st minute unassisted. Neither team found the back of the net for the rest of the match.
Peninsula ended up with 14 shots on goal, 24 shots overall and nine corner kicks. Tritons goalies Erikah Ledesma and Samanth Miller-Foy were forced to make a total of 13 saves. Peninsula’s goalie Andrea Kenagy faced seven shots on goal, making six saves.
Peninsula gets another crack at Edmonds on Oct. 10.
The Pirate women (4-0-1, 6-2-1) next play at Shoreline at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.
