COLLEGE SOCCER: Men, women sweep North Division openers

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men and women got off to a nice start in North Division play, sweeping Shoreline College at Sigmar Field.

The women won 8-0 in their Saturday match while the men erupted for three goals in the second half to beat the Dolphins 4-1.

The men scored quickly with a goal by Mason Haubrich — assisted by Yuki Lavole — in the fifth minute. The Dolphins tied it in the 28th minute and the match remained tied until midway through the second half when the Pirates scored a flurry of three goals in less than 10 minutes.

Hide Inoue and Manuel Galiano combined to do most of the damage in the second half.

Inoue, assisted by Galiano, scored in the 62nd minute. Inoue returned the favor just one minute later, assisting on a Galiano goal to make it 3-1.

Inoue picked up his second assist of the match, helping to set up a score by Yuya Yamamoto in the 72nd minute for the final goal of the match.

Peninsula dominated in shots with 21 to Shoreline’s four shots. Peninsula put a lot of pressure on the Shoreline defenders with nine corner kicks, eight of them in the first half, to Shoreline’s two.

The win evened the Pirates’ overall record to 2-2.
