COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Forks’ Luke Dahlgren an Eastern Washington captain for second straight season

Grad student also a four-time All-Big Sky Conference Academic Team pick

CHENEY — Former Forks football and wrestling standout Luke Dahlgren has been selected as an Eastern Washington University football team captain for the second straight season.

Dahlgren, now a graduate student with a bachelor’s degree in business management, is in his sixth season as an Eagle, having elected to stick around for an additional COVID year.

Student athletes normally have five years to play four seasons of their sport. The NCAA extended this eligibility into six years to play all four seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dahlgren started all 11 games for Eastern Washington last fall, playing along the offensive line at guard and center. He’s started in 24 of the 36 contests he has played in as an Eagle.

He’s also a four-time Big Sky Conference All-Academic Team honoree, earning at minimum a 3.2 GPA to make the team.

Eastern Washington opened fall training camp on Tuesday. The Eagles will be one of the first college football teams to play in 2024, opening with a Thursday evening nonconference game against Monmouth at 6 p.m. Aug. 29.

That contest can be livestreamed with an ESPN+ subscription.
