PORT ANGELES — Records have been falling left and right this season with the Peninsula College basketball teams.
On Feb. 1, the Peninsula women’s Ituau Tuisaula had a monster game, pulling down 24 rebounds in a 77-40 win over Everett. That was an all-time Peninsula College record.
The previous record, 23, was set by Pirates assistant coach Gabi Fenumiai on Dec. 20, 2013.
It was the second time this year a member of the women’s team set a team record. Earlier this season, Tati Kamae set a record for most steals in a game with 14 in a 63-41 win over Pierce on Dec. 18.
The college announced last week that Mikey Medlock Jr. set a record in a game on Jan. 21. Medlock was originally credited with nine 3-pointers and 38 points in a 106-84 victory over Olympic. After reviewing game film, it was determined that Medlock actually hit 10 3-pointers and scored 41 points in the game.
The previous school record was eight 3-pointers in a game set by Davien Harris-Williams, who played for the Pirates from 2019-21.
In addition to these accolades, Roosevelt Williams Jr. was named the NWAC Player of the Week last week.
Williams led Peninsula to two victories in the tough North Region, 89-70 over Whatcom and 78-75 over Edmonds. Williams averaged 21.5 points, six rebounds and 7.5 assists in the two victories, while shooting 54.8 percent from the field.
“Roosevelt had another great week leading us to two wins, contributing in every way statistically and in a leadership role,” said head coach Donald Rollman. “He continues to set the standard on and off of the floor.”
The men and women’s teams were off last weekend as they got a midseason week-long break. The women (5-2, 13-4), who have won five straight and sit in second place in the North Region, return to action at home at 5 p.m. today against Bellevue (4-3, 12-7).
The men (7-0, 20-1), who have won 13 straight and are in first place in the North Region, play at home at 7 p.m. today against Bellevue (4-3, 14-7).
