COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Quilcene, Port Townsend’s Gina Brown signs with Peninsula College

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College announced the signing of a second Olympic Peninsula girls’ basketball player in a week to join the Pirates for the 2021-22 season.

Gina Brown, who played basketball for three area teams, signed this week to play for Peninsula College. Brown started out playing for Quilcene, then played for Port Townsend, then this past year played for the joint Port Townsend-Chimacum East Jefferson girls’ squad.

Gina has a lot to offer our team,” said Pirates coach Alison Crumb. “She is upbeat and very coachable, and her personality just fits with what we are trying to do here at Peninsula College. She is an easy person to be around and will fit in nicely with our team next year.”

Last week, the Pirates announced the signing of Madison Cooke, a 2019 Olympic League MVP, to play for the Peninsula women. The team also has Hope Glasser, a star player for the Sequim Wolves, on its roster. Port Angeles’ Gary Johnson is on the Pirates’ men’s roster.

“We are so happy to have all these local players next year,” Crumb said.

Brown primarily played post for the Rangers, Redhawks and East Jefferson.

“Gina is a tall, lengthy player that brings a lot of physicality to the game of basketball,” Crumb said. “She is not afraid to go get a rebound or a loose ball, and we will need her size next year to complement some of the guards we have returning. I’m so excited to help her grow and improve her game. The sky is the limit for Gina.”
