TACOMA — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team managed to hold South Puget Sound scoreless from beyond the 3-point line Saturday afternoon, but the Pirates couldn’t take advantage in a 69-62 loss Saturday at the Tacoma Tournament.
The Pirates led much of the second half, building up a 48-39 lead with 13:30 left in the game, but the Clippers kept pecking away at it, outscoring the Pirates 30-14 down the stretch.
The Clippers had the strange stat of going 0-for-15 from 3-point range. However, they were able to pull the game out by shooting 17-for-18 on their free throws and 26-for-41 (63.4 percent) from 2-point range
The Pirates, meanwhile, also struggled from long range, shooting 6-for-23 from outside the arc.
Leading the Pirates in scoring was Port Angeles High School graduate Isaiah Shamp, DeShawn Rushmeyer and Isaiah Lopez, all with 11 points. Antonio Odum had seven points and led the team with six rebounds, while Patrick Odingo and Jaiden Blackmon each scored eight.
The Pirates next play Big Bend on Nov. 29 in the Skagit Valley College Turkey Tournament in Mount Vernon.
