COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Pirate men, women split on the road

SHORELINE — Peninsula College stumbled down the stretch, ceding a 12-point lead with eight minutes to play — and eventually the NWAC North Region men’s basketball contest — 80-77 to Shoreline.

Akeem Sulaiman’s steal and slam put the Pirates up 73-61 with 8:42 to play, but Peninsula faded, connecting on just 1 of 10 shots to close out the game and turning the ball over six times.

Peninsula guard Isaiah Lopez led the Pirates with 26 points, including 4-of-8 on 3-point attempts.

Jaiden Blackmon posted 18 points, Sulaiman scored 12 and Cinco McNeal came off the bench and added seven points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Peninsula (3-4, 9-11) hosts Whatcom at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
