OLYMPIA — The Peninsula College women won three straight games this week at the South Puget Sound Crossover tournament, with big contributions in all three games from Port Angeles’ Millie Long.
Long averaged 23.3 points in the tournament. She scored 27 points Saturday, including 11 in the fourth quarter, in a 76-65 win over Columbia Basin. She scored 23 in a win over Clark on Friday and 20 in a Thursday win over South Puget Sound. She has scored 20 or more points in four straight games now, and after her performance this week in Olympia, she is averaging 15.1 points a game.

The women found themselves locked in a 57-57 tie against Columbia Basin with five minutes left in the game. Long scored four buckets, three free throws, a block and an assist in the final five minutes as the Pirates pulled away down the stretch. She finished the game with five assists and four steals.
Tayvia Cabatbat finished with 13 points, and Sequim’s Hope Glasser had a solid game with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The women beat Clark 67-52 on Friday, though the game wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The Pirates jumped out to a 21-0 lead midway through the first quarter and entered the fourth quarter up 62-28, cruising the rest of the way.
Long led the team with 23 points, while Kellie-Jade Smith had 11, Glasser had 10 and Cabatbat had 10.
Thursday’s 68-56 win over South Puget Sound was much different, as this was a close game entering the fourth quarter. The Pirates were clinging to a 38-35 lead but blew the game open with a 30-point fourth quarter to win going away.
Olympic Peninsula basketball products had a lot to do with that big fourth quarter. Long had eight points in the fourth while former Roughrider Madison Cooke had seven, Port Townsend’s Gina Brown had three and Glasser had two to contribute 20 total points in the quarter.
Cooke finished the game with 11. Tatiana Kamae had 11 points while Smith had 10.
The three wins improves the women’s record to 9-2.

YAKIMA — The Peninsula men meanwhile, split a pair of games at the Yakima Crossover tournament Thursday and Friday.
The men got off to a slow start Thursday, losing a close one to Tacoma 64-63 but bounced back Friday with their biggest offensive output of the year in a 104-90 win over Linn-Benton.
In Friday’s win, Jaylin Reed led the team with 34 points and 10 rebounds. Reed shot 12-for-19 from the floor. Jase McCullough had 18 points as Reed and McCullough combined to shoot 16-for-18 from the free-throw line.
Rayshawn Harris had 16 points while Michael Medlock had 11.
The Pirates shot 50.7 percent (38-for-75) from the field in this win.
In Thursday’s loss, the Pirates got off to a bad start, falling behind Tacoma 38-23 after the first 20 minutes. They put on a furious rally in the second half, and Tacoma was lucky to walk away with a win.
The Pirates were still down big at 64-50 with four minutes in the game when Harris made a pair of 3-pointers, and Reed sunk a three to bring the Pirates back into the game.
Peninsula managed to make the score 64-63 with 1:43 left but missed two shots down the stretch as neither team could score in the final 103 seconds. In fact, Tacoma was completely shut out over the last four minutes of the game.
Reed made a total of four 3-pointers and again the led the team with 21 points to go along with eight boards. Harris hit three treys overall and finished with 15 points.
Former Port Angeles Roughrider Gary Johnson got in the game and hit a crucial 3-pointer in the second half.
The men (8-3 overall) played Yakima Valley after press deadline on Saturday.
