COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula women split pair, men win

AUBURN — The Peninsula women split their opening pair at the Green River Crossover Tournament this weekend, beating rival Lane 74-64, then losing an overtime thriller to Columbia Basin 83-80.

Friday’s loss was the second overtime loss of the season for the women (6-5). The women earlier this season beat Columbia Basin.

The women played Saturday against Green River. Results were not available before press deadline.

The women got a measure of revenge against Lane Thursday, which beat the Pirates last year in the Northwest Conference championship.

In the Lane game, Alicia Dugan led a balanced scoring attack with 21 points and five assists, while Sephora Yayouss scored 11 and Jenise McKnight added 10 points with nine rebounds. Anaya Rodisha and Yamelei Rodriguez each scored nine.

Versus Columbia Basin, the game was close throughout, with the Hawks holding a 35-33 lead at the half. The two teams combined for 55 total points in a wild fourth quarter, ending up tied at 76-76.

McKnight had a monster game with 27 points and 24 rebounds, including eight offensive rebounds. Yayouss and Rodriguez each scored 13, while Rodisha had 10 points. Yayouss added 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Peninsula 71, Highline 48

DES MOINES — Led by four players in double figures, the Pirates rolled to an easy 71-48 win over Highline in the Highline Crossover Tournament.

Darrion Daniels scored 17 points and dished out four assists, while Cole Rabedeaux added 12 to go along with 10 rebounds. Jalon McCullough scored 11 and Kevin Baker 10. Alex Baham added a pair of 3-pointers and scored nine.

The Pirates (6-2) played Yakima Saturday (results were not known before press deadline) and will play Chemeteka at noon today.
