COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula women remain in first after win over Everett; Peninsula men lose 72-69

EVERETT — The Peninsula College women’s basketball team remained atop the Northwest Athletic Conference North Division with a 69-62 road win over the Everett Trojans.

In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Peninsula men dropped a close division matchup Everett, 72-69.

The Peninsula women had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore Madison Pilster’s 23 points. Pilster also had six rebounds, three steals and three assists.

Gabi Fenumiai contributed 15 points and a team-high 14 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, while Cierra Moss finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and Imani Smith scored 10 points, pulled down five rebounds and dished five assists.

Zhara Laster grabbed 12 rebounds for the Pirates, who out-rebounded the Trojans 58-43.

Laster also had five points, three steals and four assists.

Kylie Smith had a double-double for Everett with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sierra Hagans led the Trojans with 14 points.

Peninsula (3-0, 9-4) and Bellevue (3-0, 12-6) are the last two remaining undefeated teams in the North Division. They face off this Saturday at Peninsula College.

But first, the Pirates host Olympic (1-2, 9-7) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Rangers earned their first division win of the season Saturday by edging Shoreline 52-51.

Port Angeles graduate Mariah Frazier paced Olympic with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three steals.

EVERETT — Freshman Jeremiah Hobbs led the Pirates in points (16), rebounds (eight), blocks (three), assists (three) and steals (two) in Saturday’s game.

Two other freshmen reached double figures for Peninsula: Deonte Dixon scored 15 points and Ryley Callaghan finished with 13.

The Pirates assisted on 20 of their 26 field goals. Domach Domach topped the team with six assists and Malik Mayeux had five.

Everett’s freshman guard Derek Brown Jr. had 26 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

Dominique McClendon also had a double-double for the Trojans with 11 points and 10 boards.

The Pirates (1-2, 8-7) host Olympic (0-3, 5-10) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
