COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula women beat Centralia on late basket

CENTRALIA — Peninsula’s Kameron Bowen scored a bucket with three seconds left to give the women’s basketball team a come-from-behind road win 56-55 against Centralia.

The victory keeps the women undefeated at 4-0.

With the women down 55-51 late in the fourth quarter, Leilani Padilla also hit a crucial 3-pointer with 35 seconds left in the game to make it 55-54. Padilla was just 1 for 7 from 3-point range before she hit her big shot.

The Blazers had a 52-47 lead with 4:26 left, but the Pirates allowed only one bucket over the final four-plus minutes of the game.

Kuutuuq Danner led the Pirates with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Padilla scored 11, Sunshine Vincente nine and Olivia Williams eight to go along with her six rebounds.

Ashylynn Sharp only scored two points, but led the Pirates with six assists. Bowen finished the game with seven points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

The Pirates (0-0, 4-0) next play in the Pierce College Tournament beginning Friday with games on Saturday and possibly Sunday.
