COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula splits road games at Olympic

BREMERTON — The Peninsula College basketball teams split a pair of contests on the road at rival Olympic, with the Pirate women maintaining their share of first place in the NWAC North Division after a 76-66 win over the Rangers, while the Peninsula men lost 66-56 to fall into a three-way tie for first place.

The Pirate men struggled on the glass in losing for the second time in their past three contests. Olympic handily outrebounded the taller Peninsula squad 45-31 on the game. The Trojans also had the edge at the free-throw line, hitting 16 of 22 as a team compared to the Pirates 6 of 9 night at the line.

Darrion Daniels was a bright spot for Peninsula with 22 points on 9 of 18 shooting, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range.

Jalon McCullough hit three 3s and scored 11 points for the Pirates and Cole Rabedeaux scored seven points and added five rebounds.

Peninsula (7-3, 16-6) is now tied for the NWAC North Division lead with Bellevue (7-3, 17-8) and Shoreline (7-3, 14-7) with four games remaining in the regular season. The Pirates split their season series with Shoreline and lost their first game with Bellevue, so a win in Sunday’s 3 p.m. game on the Bulldogs’ home court is crucial.
