PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College men’s basketball team felt it let a win slip through its grasp over the weekend at Olympic.
The Pirates managed to rebound at home Wednesday in an 85-65 win over Whatcom with the Peninsula reserves putting in big minutes off the bench.
“Credit to our guys for bouncing back a bit,” coach Donald Rollman said. “We knew we let Olympic off the hook and they were disappointed. We did a much better job of taking advantage of our opponents’ weaknesses, we shared the ball well and ultimately everyone on the team contributed.”
Pirates’ reserves scored 54 of the team’s 85 points with Rayshawn Harris hitting for 22 points on 7 of 12 shooting, including 3 of 7 on 3s and draining all five free-throw attempts in 19 minutes. He also added a pair of steals.
“Rayshawn has been playing really, really well in league play,” Rollman said. “He’s our most talented scorer but he’s really bought in defensively and that’s where he struggled.”
Mikey Medlock drained 6 of 8 shots, including 3 of 5 3s to score 15 points in 17 minutes for the Pirates (3-1, 11-5).
Peninsula visits Edmonds on Wednesday.

Peninsula women fall
PORT ANGELES — Turnovers and some solid 3-point shooting by Whatcom did in the Pirate women in a 77-71 loss.
The Orcas (4-0, 11-1) connected on 14 3s and Peninsula turned the ball over 27 times while playing without starting point guard Millie Long.
The Pirates held a 62-58 lead early in the fourth quarter and led 67-66 with 4:25 to play, but couldn’t hang on.
Peninsula (2-2, 11-4) visits Edmonds on Wednesday.
