PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team earned its first NWAACC North Division win of the season and the women improved to 2-2 as the Pirates swept the Everett Trojans.
In Wednesday’s men’s game, Peninsula overcame a cold first half with a scorching second half, turning a 46-33 halftime deficit into a 93-83 win.
The Pirates made 10 of 11 second-half 3-pointers and shot 70 percent from the field after intermission, while holding Everett to 25 percent shooting.
Xavier Bazile paced Peninsula with 22 points, while Tyler McKinney added 18, with all of his points coming from his 6 of 10 shooting from 3-point range.
Geno Horsley added 10 points, Markus Rawls had nine and Darren Hechanova scored eight.
Bazile made 9 of 16 from the field, including 2 of 2 from deep, and had six rebound and a team-highs with three steals and two blocks.
Hechanova led Peninsula with eight rebounds.
Horsley, McKinney and Rawls had four assists apiece.
The Pirates (1-3 in division, 7-6 overall) host Olympic (1-3, 1-13) on Saturday. Former Sequim standout Jayson Brocklesby has led the Rangers in scoring in the three games he has played with the team.
During halftime of that game, Peninsula College will retire Bernie Fryer’s No. 32 jersey.

Freshman Madison Pilster led four Pirates in double figures with 22 points in Wednesday’s win.
Alison Knowles added 19 points and Gabi Fenumiai scored 16 and had 12 rebounds, six of which were offensive.
Olivia Henderson, whose scoring has added another dimension to the Pirates’ offense recently, finished with 15 points.
Henderson also tied Pherrari Brumbaugh for the team-high in assist with five, as Peninsula assisted on 20 of its 30 field goals and only turned the ball over five times in the game.
The Pirates were 8 of 20 on 3-pointers, with Knowles shooting 3 for 6, Brumbaugh 2 for 3, Henderson 2 for 4 and Marissa Schwimmer 1 for 3.
Peninsula (2-2, 5-9) faces Olympic (1-3, 4-10), which features Port Angeles High School graduates Macy Walker and Mariah Frazier in its starting lineup.
